Morris Dancing

Morris Dance Class

Interested in finding out about morris dancing?

Why not try out our Tuesday evening Morris class, a fun and relaxed way to discover one of folk dance’s richest traditions.

Who is it for?

The class is mixed ability, with no previous experience necessary! The classes are structured to allow beginners to both learn at their own pace but also practice with more experienced morris dancers. Already a seasoned morris dancer? There is also a separate advanced class in which you can hone your skills.

What can I learn?

Morris dance is an energetic, buoyant form of English folk dance performed to lively music in groups or 'sides'. There are many diverse traditions across the country - this class is based on the popular Cotswold tradition in which dancers perform with handkerchiefs and sticks.

When does it take place?

Autumn term 2017
Tuesdays 19 Sept - 12 Dec

Beginners: 6.30 - 8pm
Improvers and intermediate: 6.30 - 9pm

Please note: these classes are designed to overlap. This allows beginners to be taught the basics alongside more experienced dancers – this is the traditional way of learning morris as it’s more accessible and supportive for beginners. After a mid-session break, more complex dances will be taught which are suitable for more experienced dancers.
