Each year EFDSS offers a few work experience placements at Cecil Sharp House for young people aged 14-18 years old (School Years 10-13), or for disabled young people up to 24 years of age.
"Work experience at Cecil Sharp House was very enjoyable! I was not only able to see what it is like in the real working world but also able to meet new people, further my social skills and also just have a great time! The staff at Cecil Sharp House were extremely welcoming and were able to show me the different things that go into making Cecil Sharp House the brilliant place that it is. I recommend it to anyone wanting to have an insight into the working world, who is passionate about music, dancing or just wants to have a lovely time!"
Iris, work experience student
Placements are usually for one or two weeks and offered in June or July. Interest is high, and we prioritise:
Young people will typically spend time with each department and learn more about how an arts venue and cultural organisation works. This may include time with our Education, Library, Marketing and Operations teams, among other areas of our work.
You may be asked to work outside standard office hours, for example for events in the evening or at the weekend. This is so you get the most out of your placement and experience a range of our activities.
When we receive your application it will be processed as quickly as possible and someone will contact you to let you know if you have been successful. Once a place has been offered you will be asked to arrange a reference letter from your school, college or parent / guardian depending on the circumstances of the work experience.
Unfortunately, because of the amount of interest we receive, we cannot offer places to all applicants.
If you would like to know more about work experience with us, please do get in touch.
We hope to welcome you to Cecil Sharp House soon!
